From Membranes to Microcurvatures: A New Perspective on Lipid Antioxidants.

Explore the newly discovered mechanisms of natural RRR-α-tocopherol, a specialized vitamin E isomer uniquely enriched in human skin, with an α-tocopherol/γ-tocopherol molar ratio of 10:1. Recent in silico molecular dynamic simulations have demonstrated its unique flip-flop movement within plasma membranes and its ability to enhance cholesterol-induced microcurvatures. This lipophilic antioxidant serves a dual purpose: inhibiting lipid peroxidation and maintaining membrane fluidity and cellular homeostasis, both of which are essential for countering the age-related rigidity of skin cell membranes. Join us as we delve deeper into these findings and their implications in the evolving field of Oxy-Aging.
