Vitasterol S-80® is an innovative functional ingredient that can be added to supplements and food applications to help improve heart health.

Phytosterols were among the first substances to obtain an authorized health claim under the European Commission’s framework Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 on nutrition and health claims made on foods. The specific claim was authorized by Commission Regulation (EU) No 384/2010, which states: “Plant sterols/stanols have been shown to lower/reduce blood cholesterol. Blood cholesterol lowering may reduce the risk of (coronary) heart disease.” Foods such as yellow fat spreads (margarines), mayonnaise, salad dressings, soy and rice drinks, rye bread, and dairy products, as well as dietary supplements, are authorized for phytosterol fortification according to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470.
